Good questions.
How do I play?
Tap anywhere on the ready screen to start. Touch the ocean, drag opposite the direction you want to swim, and release. A longer pull makes a stronger burst. The dotted arrow previews your direction, and a brief animated cue demonstrates the gesture. There are no direction or Burst buttons.
What am I trying to do?
Swim as far as you can through an endless reef and collect golden pearls. You have three hearts; coral costs a heart and knocks you back. A short grace period lets you recover. A rising tide follows from below: losing all your hearts or getting caught ends the run. There is no timer or final level.
How does scoring work?
Each pearl earns 100 points. Every 32 units of new upward progress earns 5 points. Returning to a depth you already reached does not earn more progress points. Your best score is saved when a round ends.
Why can’t I burst?
You have three ink reserves. Each burst uses one, and reserves recharge automatically. There is also a short cooldown between bursts. Watch the ink meter at the bottom of the screen.
Why can’t I hear the game?
Ink Escape respects Silent Mode. Check your iPhone’s Silent Mode and media volume, then turn Sound on in Settings. Calls and other audio interruptions pause the game.
Where is my best score saved?
Your best score, preferences, and review-prompt usage counters are saved locally on your device and persist when you close the app. There is no account or cross-device score sync. Deleting the app removes its local data. We do not receive your scores and cannot recover them.
Can I play offline? Are there ads?
Yes, the whole game works offline. There are no ads, accounts, subscriptions, or in-app purchases.
Can I reduce the effects?
Open Settings to switch off sound or haptics, or enable Reduce effects. The app also respects your iPhone’s Reduce Motion preference. Leaving the app pauses your round until you choose to resume.
When can I rate the app?
After at least five completed runs and three minutes of active play, Ink Escape may request Apple’s native rating prompt on the game-over screen. Later requests are at least 125 days apart and require more play. Apple decides whether the prompt appears; it is disabled in TestFlight builds.
